We’re trying to keep it lighthearted again! Do we succeed? Kind of! We’re talking celebrity worship in politics! Kanye, Ted Nugent, other conservative celebrities, Donald Glover, and more! Mostly pooping your pants, though.
Do you know what Ted Nugent did to dodge the draft? Here’s a hint: He made a big ol’ mess. Why does the rightwing love Kanye so much all of a sudden? Does George Bush finally care about black people? And Childish Gambino’s This is America is amazing, but is Donald Glover’s Bro Rape still ok to laugh at? Just how accountable should people be for the art they made years ago? It’s the end of the school year and I’m exhausted, I’m not writing my usual essay here, y’all. Oops, I ended the show notes.
Metal Gear has… Oops? We talk about Metal Gear Solid and how much Hideo Kojima predicted when it comes to modern politics. Phil and Sly try to convince Ryan that these games are amazing, while Darryl adds a healthy grain of salt into the discussion. We mostly talk about Metal Gear Solid 2 and Revengeance, but touch upon all of them at least a little bit.
On this episode, we talk about how Metal Gear Solid’s villains just want to Make America Great Again. We also cover all sorts of different types of “isms.” And we spend way too much (or not enough?) time talking about memes. Ryan tries to seem cool but ends up just hiding behind his gamecube. Sly is all about dream meme genes. Phil finally reveals his hypocrisy when it comes to hating dumb media. And Darryl takes nanomachines so he can beat us up. Just like Metal Gear, this episode is both way more serious and way sillier than it has any right to be.
In a particularly NSFW episode, the gang talks about the dumb laws our dumb species has come up with. At least it starts off that way before devolving into a lot of dirty fetish talk.
First the gang talks about old dumb laws like monarchies and dueling. Then they transition to the modern day with stories of weird legal loopholes. Also weird modern politicians. Ryan reminisces on the origins of the show while Sly introduces the new clickbaity direction. Meanwhile Phil’s secret identity is revealed and Darryl is sorry the listeners had to be exposed to this entire episode.
Against all odds, we’re back. Last episode, we talked about how much we had to look forward to! Well, not anymore. It’s time to dip into our endless reserve of pessimism and talk about some dark futurology. Let’s be real, y’all, it’s not looking good out there lately.
We talk about some of our biggest fears for the future. Darryl talks the trend of hyper-partisan politics and gives the secret origin of Jesus Christ: microbiologist. Ryan talks automation and his own miserable existence. Phil talks antibiotic resistant bacteria and has no faith in human decency vs. the allure of McNuggets. Sly talks immortality and really “Slys it up” in style.
We’re looking to the future! We (try to) focus on the bright side of humanity’s future. Optimism? In MY political podcast?
Darryl walks us through some of the pros and cons of generational trends as the Parkland students show us that all hope is not lost. Sly pays his dues and breaks down the return of the unions of the world as they bargain for more power again! Ryan struggles to pronounce Universal Basic Income, but manages to explain Finland, Alaska, and California’s experiments to fight automation and disappearing jobs! Phil couldn’t bear to think about anything positive in this hellscape we’ve ended up in, but he’ll be back next episode!
“The greatest victory is that which requires no battle.” ― Sun Tzu
We’re here to talk about China. They’re quickly becoming an even larger power, but so what? What kind of influence do they already have? How are they growing it? Just what is free trade and what’s a tariff? And why are all globalists cucks? We answer all these pressing questions and more.
On this episode, Darryl breaks down Trump’s new tariff announcements and asks “Why is Trump doing this dumb thing?” Ryan talks about NAFTA and the TPP and reveals his true motivations. Phil looks at just how terrible of a place China is and how much they pollute. And Sly pretty much does the same thing, but from a different point of view, one that’s got way more cameras!
On this episode, we talk about money in politics. Turns out, politicians are corrupt! Can you believe it?
In this episode, we compare Trump vs. Hillary’s campaign money! Phil gives us some stats on just how much money matters in an election. Sly gives us some history on limitless campaign spending. Ryan looks to the future and how Democrats are addressing these concerns. And Darryl tells us about everyone’s least favorite lobby, the NRA.
We spent last episode complaining about Obama’s Foreign Policy and Neo-liberalism and now it’s only fair to dump on a much, much worse president, Richard Nixon. No, he’s not some intricate balance of complex good and bad issues, he’s a straight up piece of garbage. But what are some of the standout parts of his presidency? And how is Trump aping his style and grace? Pretty much whenever he can. Crooks of a feather, I suppose.
Everyone’s talking about Watergate nowadays. And adding gate to the end of everything. So what actually happened? What was the Saturday Night Massacre? And why was he called DeepThroat? Darryl walks us through the scandal and the cover-up. And a lot of people praise ol’ Tricky Dick for opening trade with China. Why was that such a big deal? Phil helps give some brief (more or less) history of China and some of the economic implications of opening up our economies.
Ryan walks us through some history of Cambodia, and how Nixon fueled the fires, staged coups, and led to one of the more forgotten and heinous genocides in modern times. A genocide America refused to acknowledge for decades! And finally Sly continues Nixon’s foreign policy disasters with how we intervened in Chile and pushed Friedman economic policies on behalf of American corporations and at the expense of the South American people. Oh, and don’t forget, Nixon started the war on drugs because he hated black people and was terrified of Jews! Also Henry Kissinger is scum, too.
Content warning: We speak extensively on some very heavy issues, primarily genocide.
Thanks, Obama. It’s time or the left to cannibalize itself. We all know Trump’s the worst president in modern American history. But was Obama perfect? We’ve wanted to talk about Obama’s flaws and problems for a while, but it’s important to keep in mind that Trump is So. Much. Worse.
Phil breaks down some of the nonsense Obama had to deal with, like his “lazy” vacation schedule and how it compares to Trump’s and Bush’s. Similarly, he compares “tyrant” Obama’s Executive Orders. The republican presidents were way worse, can you believe it? Darryl goes through the timeline of drone strikes and compares civilian deaths throughout our endless war with anyone we feel like attacking. Ryan focuses on Health Care, not the Trumpcare bills we covered previously, but some of the problems with Obamacare, which are all Joe Lieberman’s fault (and by proxy, Obama). Sly lays out his case against neoliberalism, especially during the Wall Street bailout, and wow, even just the foreplay is enough to radicalize us.
