Issue 72: Ditko's Dr. Strange Defeats The Dread Dormammu
We cover Steve Ditko (and Stan Lee’s) classic Dr. Strange run, primarily the 12 part epic that ran from Strange Tales 130-141! Ditko may have recently passed, but he remains one of our most beloved creators, even if he was a Randian Objectivist!
On this episode, we get trippy to delve into what makes Dr. Strange one of Sly’s all time favorite comic books. Darryl channels his inner Toad, but which one? Phil reveals more ways he bullied Sly when they were in 8th grade. And Ryan argues minutiae.
Ryan forgot to mention it on the episode, but he and Sly were just on They See Me Rollin’, a wonderful actual play podcast and we had a LOT of fun playing a one shot in Fiasco!
Issue 69: Stan Lee Just Imagines Some Weird DC Reboots
We’re continuing our Stan Lee bonanza! So we spend another episode dunking on him. In the early 2000s, he had a series of books called “Just Imagine,” where he rebooted the major DC characters but with one major twist… now they’re dumb! Excelsior!
On this episode, we cover Stan’s re-imagining of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Ryan’s got the maturity of a 12 year old when it comes to respecting other cultures. Darryl is finally appreciating the finer things of comics, like wearing your underwear on the outside. Phil is a scumbag, but this time… in SPACE. And can you pass the Sly test and prove your worthy of existence?
You know that guy that shows up in every Marvel movie? Stanley? Well, he’s been cameoing in comics for years! Not always in the best light, though. Apparently his coworkers really hated him and loved to openly mock him in their books. ‘Nuff Said!
In this episode, we delve into some of the more aggressive takes on Stan “The Man” Lee. Jack Kirby, Jim Starlin, and Bob Oksner all included him in their books in a pretty negative light. Darryl! Loves! Extra! Exclamation!! Points!!! Sly gives the secret origin of Stan Lee’s co-creator. Ryan revisits his fourth world fever dream. And Phil finally comes out a chicky lady booby baby. It’s time to get deep into some meta lore here at Divisive Issues studios.
