Season 1, Episode 4: Tomb or Tomb?

As National Novel Writing Month reaches its close, so do the Steffens’ tombs! Well, for some of them—believe it or not, it’s not all doom and gloom! This episode is a cathartic one as each of the siblings finally shelve their works and discuss at length what went right and what went horribly, horribly wrong. Seriously, there’s a lot of bemoaning and griping here (and one really sore winner).

Darryl delves into the latter half of his fantasy novel before soon beginning his long tirade against it. Liz describes the murderous acts of her main character and reveals what the evil spirit’s end goal has been all along. And Ian… well, Ian participated in the podcast. Thanks for going on this wild journey with us. Now let us Rest In Peace!

Season 1, Episode 3: Sick, Tired, and in the Tomb

National Novel Writing Month is… looking grim! The Steffens have a lot on their plate: besides losing a whole episode they had *just* recorded beforehand (RIP lost-cast), their books are on the IV drip as they struggle to write a mere 2 weeks in! They openly complain about the pacing, oversights & general faults in their books; the road to 50,000 words is becoming ever-more perilous!

In Darryl’s novel, Wyren & his mentor Yirris have reached the military heart of Darryl’s fantasy world, and prepare to confront the main villain. Liz’s main character Tal goes down a dark path as he begins draining the life from his girlfriend—something her demon-hunting teacher is keen to notice! And Ian gives some depth to his characters on their journey westward, expanding his world’s lore. Maybe the Steffens can pull the one foot they have in the tomb out?… Maybe?… Hopefully?…

Season 1, Episode 2: Ready for the Tomb

National Novel Writing Month is underway! One week in and… things are already looking a little dicey for the Steffens (yikes!)! Everyone’s story is finally shaping up, but their spirits have been dampened… which isn’t a good sign going forward—those that have done NaNoWriMo before will know the feeling.

Darryl explains what has happened thus far in his fantasy novel where the sun has stopped and Wyren must venture forth to slay the king of the land to get it moving again. Liz describes her spooky short story where Tal seeks power from a pernicious spirit that wants him to drain energy from people with a magic blade. And Ian tells of the humble outset to his American-folk-fantasy novel, where intrepid pioneers venture west in search of gold & glory (only to find their inevitable doom). Hopefully these books will see a satisfying conclusion!

Season 1, Episode 1: The Pitch

The Pitch: National Novel Writing Month is about to begin! And what better way to celebrate than to make your family suffer through it with you? Tomb or Tome is a podcast where two brothers and a sister get together and talk about what they’ve written, week by week! Can they create a novel in a month’s time? Or will their tomes… become their tombs?

As this is the introductory episode, Darryl lays down the quirky rules going into the 2017 NaNoWriMo: each sibling contributes two characters and two locations that *everybody* has to use. Then the siblings pitch the premise behind their respective books (or in Liz’s case, five separate short stories!), describe how they’ll use each others’ characters & locations, and theorize what problems they’re likely to encounter. Will the Steffens survive 2017’s NaNoWriMo? Only time will tell!
