The first week of NaNoWriMo has come and gone! All of the Steffens are struggling to maintain their word count, but all hope is not yet lost! Ian and Darryl have a solid grasp on what they’re doing even if they’re not highly motivated (or, in one brother’s case, downright detest their book), and Liz is trucking along at her own pace. We’ve crawled back out of the crypts and are now slumped against our writing desks for another agonizing edition of Tomb or Tome! And what an agonizing edition (2019) it will be! Darryl is trying to continue the same book from last year (as well as 2015), and lays out all the new tidbits he’s discovered re-reading I Was My Stalker. Liz is also continuing her book from last year, though it’s likely her new job will stifle her writing. And Ian—hoo boy—lets luck determine the genre, plot, and characters in his book, and all that can be said is you’ll have to listen to this episode to believe what happens next.

NaNoWriMo is over! It’s all over! Our books included! Defeatism reigns king as the Steffens describe the last bits of their books. Darryl complains non-stop about every facet of his novel, Liz’s real life operation puts her story on hiatus, and Ian decides to just say “screw it” and make a space warrior. It’s been a long, tough year, and we’re all ready for the tomb.

Two weeks in and things have gotten… unconventional! There’s a new leader of NaNoWriMo, and a whoooole lot of reasons why the person in last place is in the hole that they’re in. Ian talks about the twelve gods of his world that embody American principles, Liz describes her isolationist vampire society, and Darryl gets stuck in calendar hell for the sake of realism. Things may be looking a bit grim at this stage… a bit… tomb-y, if you will.

NaNoWriMo is off to an exciting start! Day 7 brings with it some big change-ups from last year, with Ian in the lead and Darryl in last place. The latter sibling explains how he’s struggling to get into his protagonist’s head, the former sibling details the origin of his universe, and Liz is writing about pumpkin people that give birth by blowing up. The Steffens are surviving for the time being—but can they keep it up?

We’re back at it again! Tomb or Tome is our annual podcast where three siblings attempt to write a book (or finish an old book [or just write some lore]) for National Novel Writing Month! This year (2018) is going to be a little different however, as we’re no longer sharing characters and locations throughout our world. Instead, we’ll be tackling projects that are finally worth our time: Liz will be working on a spooky Burton-esque horror novella, Darryl will be tying to wrap up his “Literary Suspense” book about a girl being stalked by her pseudo-self, and Ian will be laying the groundwork for his magnum opus fiction universe! Will we manage to write our tomes this year? Or will we be tombed yet again?

As National Novel Writing Month reaches its close, so do the Steffens’ tombs! Well, for some of them—believe it or not, it’s not all doom and gloom! This episode is a cathartic one as each of the siblings finally shelve their works and discuss at length what went right and what went horribly, horribly wrong. Seriously, there’s a lot of bemoaning and griping here (and one really sore winner).

Darryl delves into the latter half of his fantasy novel before soon beginning his long tirade against it. Liz describes the murderous acts of her main character and reveals what the evil spirit’s end goal has been all along. And Ian… well, Ian participated in the podcast. Thanks for going on this wild journey with us. Now let us Rest In Peace!

National Novel Writing Month is… looking grim! The Steffens have a lot on their plate: besides losing a whole episode they had *just* recorded beforehand (RIP lost-cast), their books are on the IV drip as they struggle to write a mere 2 weeks in! They openly complain about the pacing, oversights & general faults in their books; the road to 50,000 words is becoming ever-more perilous!

In Darryl’s novel, Wyren & his mentor Yirris have reached the military heart of Darryl’s fantasy world, and prepare to confront the main villain. Liz’s main character Tal goes down a dark path as he begins draining the life from his girlfriend—something her demon-hunting teacher is keen to notice! And Ian gives some depth to his characters on their journey westward, expanding his world’s lore. Maybe the Steffens can pull the one foot they have in the tomb out?… Maybe?… Hopefully?…
